George Brown graduated from Culver Military Academy, and received his music training at the University of Louisville School of Music. In 1974, Brown became timpanist for the U. S. Coast Guard Band. Shortly thereafter, he assumed the same position with the US Armed Forces Bicentennial Band where he performed in all fifty states and much of North America.

After active duty, he was a percussionist for the Louisville Orchestra and the 202nd Army Band. In 1980, he moved to Colorado, assuming positions as timpanist of the Colorado Springs Symphony and the Orquésta Sinfonica de Mineria (Mexico City). During that time he also performed with the Mexico City Philharmonic and the Denver Symphony. Brown joined the Utah Symphony in 1987 as Principal Timpanist. Since that time he has also performed with the Indianapolis Symphony and the Sun Valley Festival Orchestra. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor of Timpani at the University of Utah and is active throughout the west as a Clinician/Performing Artist for Evans and Yamaha.

This is George's 4th season coaching percussion at Lyceum Music Festival.
