YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED!
Q. Who can attend?
A. Musicians ages 13-21 that play an orchestral instrument at an advanced level are invited to seek admission. You can send in a recorded audition or sign up for a live audition. See Audition Information for details.
Q. Am I a good enough player to attend LMF?
A. We encourage all students 13-21 who practice regularly and take private lessons to audition. There is no way to determine skill without an audition. We require the same ability level as All-State Orchestra or “Superior Rating” at State Sole & Ensemble. Many students who participate in these programs receive invitation letters without having to take an audition.
Q. What are my options with the multiple week offering?
A. Lyceum Music Festival has expanded to a two-week festival for 2012. Accepted students may attend either or both weeks. Each week has different music and guest artists.
Q. How does the registration and payment work?
A. Do not register and pay if you have not been accepted. At the time of registration you must pay the tuition in whole or make a minimum deposit of $150 to save your spot. The remainder is due by May 31st and can be paid via On-line Payment. Those who prefer to make a payment over the phone may call 1-800-921-8752. Payments can also be made in person or by check. Please make payable to American Heritage School, 736 N 1100 E, American Fork, UT 84003. See Tuition & Fees for details.
Q. How do I redeem my scholarship?
A. Included with each scholarship letter is a scholarship code. Enter this code in the Scholarship Code field of the Online Registration page. You will see the amount of the scholarship applied to your total on the at the bottom of the page next to the sumbit button. You must click on the page outside the Scholarship Code field for the site to know you have entered the code. Be aware that admission is limited. Once a particular instrument category is filled registration is closed for that instrument.
Q. How do I know if my instrument has availability for the week I want to attend?
A. We will update the Audition Information page as instrument availability is filled. If for whatever reason an applicant registers for an instrument that has no availability a refund will be provided. Available spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q. What are my options for food and lodging?
A. Your options are (1) purchase the Food & Lodging package, (2) take advantage of the Zermatt resort LMF rate of $129 per night for a hotel room and stay on campus with your parent/guardian, (3) commute to and from the Festival. Participants who choose the Food & Lodging package have food, lodging, transportation, and supervision for the length of the Festival. LMF does not provide food/lodging/supervision during non-rehearsal times for students not enrolled in the Food & Lodging package.
Q. How are orchestra seating or solo parts determined?
A. On the first day of the festival students audition for seating. Each student will play the same excerpts as indicated in the music folders sent to them. Wind/Brass participants are sent the principal part and an alternate part for each piece. The audition determines which of the two parts they will perform.
Q. When will I get the music?
A. Participants receive a folder of music and practice recording 6 weeks prior to the Festival.
Q. I have a disability. Can I still attend?
A. Yes, pending audition. Contact the Festival manager at Lyceum@AHSMail.com to work out the details.
Q. What should I bring to the Festival?
A. Here's a good list for starters:
• Comfortable/modest rehearsal clothing. The weather is on average 70 degrees but bring a jacket for the evening.
• Swimming suit for the pool and pizza party.
• Spending money for the bakery.
• Concert Black – tuxedo (black bowtie) for men, modest black dress or black skirt with white or black blouse for women.
• Instrument, music, pencil, rosin, mutes, anything you need to play your best!
•Students staying at the Zermatt Resort may also wish to bring personal toiletries, pajamas, music to listen to (iPods are ok), a good book. FYI - We disable the TV in the hotel rooms.
Q. What should I not bring to the Festival?
A. Thank you for not bringing:
• Game systems (Nintendo DS)
• DVD players
• Movies or DVDs
• Laptop Computers
Q. Is there a shuttle from Salt Lake International Airport to Zermatt?
A. LMF does not provide a shuttle from the airport. Contact All Resort Express at 435-649-3999 or a similar company to make travel arrangements.
Q. Who can I contact if my question is not answered here?
